Today’s palazzo pants are far more stylish than the garishly patterned counterparts from the 1990s. They are still wide-leg trousers by design, and there are numerous ways to combine shirts and shoes with this style. For the record, palazzo trousers ensembles are really versatile and may be worn on a date, to a girls’ night out or to work.
Context: Practically speaking, there isn’t much of a distinction between wide-leg and palazzo trousers. Palazzos are often broader through the hips and legs, with a more flowy, less rigid appearance that may flare at the knee. The good news is that the modernised palazzo pant comes in a variety of materials. (We’re also seeing palazzo jeans and palazzo trouser—more on that in a moment). There are also varied rises to accommodate various shapes and profiles.
Regardless of the fit or material, this is a piece that your closet will be glad to have. If you want to dip your toe (or leg) in the trend, keep scrolling.

First, we have the palazzo denim. A very wide-leg jean is simple to style: just wear it like any other wide-leg pant in your closet. To balance out the volume on the bottom, pair a structured top—like this button-down—with a cropped or textured jacket or jumper that doesn’t extend past your hips.

These trousers are extremely casual yet intricate, featuring a side zip, logo and piping. A matching top worn open with a structured shirt underneath completes the appearance. If you prefer a more conservative look, button the shirt down to your hips.

If you want to channel a vintage palazzo pant (think wild patterns), choose a slightly higher-quality cloth. These appear to be silk or satin, and we recommend styling them with a similar top and structured vest for balance.
