‘Home Alone’ Star Daniel Stern Lands Criminal Charge Amid Sequel Tease

Date:

Due to their relationship with the opposite sex, another “Home Alone” actor has run afoul of the law.

Daniel Stern, who portrayed Marv Murchins in the cherished ’90s franchise, has been accused of attempting to unlawfully enjoy some bedroom fun. His offense happened more than a year after a former co-star admitted to domestic abuse.

Chris Columbus helmed two Christmas comedies in the “Home Alone” series from the 1990s. The films followed the exploits of Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, after he was abandoned over the holidays.

Stern has reportedly been charged with soliciting prostitutes in California, according to recent sources. The incident started last month when the actor was cited for attempting to hire an escort at a Camarillo hotel.

Stern merely got a ticket at the time, and until his case was submitted to the Ventura County DA’s Office on Friday, January 9, he may have thought he got away with it. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office sent Stern’s case to the DA’s Office, according to a representative.

Stern’s arraignment was scheduled on Tuesday morning after prosecutors decided to formally file criminal charges against him for soliciting prostitution, according to TMZ. Stern might not attend the court, though, according to sources who say his lawyer might show up in his place.

The TV Personality Suffered A Medical Emergency Last October

Stern made news for a medical problem months prior to the turmoil surrounding his criminal charges. The incident happened on October 7, 2024, when the Ventura County Fire Department was called to a Somis, California, home.

Stern was identified by sources as the person in need of assistance, although it was unclear what kind of medical issue he had encountered. According to the Ventura County Fire Department, the person was evaluated by firefighters before being taken to a local hospital.

Stern was eventually freed and was doing well, according to both sources and a Stern representative. The health scare happened in the same year that Devin Ratray, another “Home Alone” star, gained notoriety by entering a guilty plea to charges of domestic abuse resulting from an event in 2021.

Ratray, who played Buzz McCallister in the holiday films from the 1990s, entered a guilty plea to two counts of domestic abuse in February 2024, according to court records that The Blast was able to obtain. He made this choice in order to avoid going to jail.

Ratray was ordered to attend a Batterers Intervention Program, submit to a drug and alcohol test, and pay all of the victim’s legal costs in lieu of going to jail. In addition, he was put on three years of probation and instructed not to communicate with his former girlfriend.

After being hit with numerous accusations in 2022, Ratray first entered a not guilty plea to the crimes. Battery, misdemeanor domestic assault, battery by strangulation, and felony domestic assault were on the list. After being detained in 2021, he was freed on a $25,000 bond.

In December 2021, Ratray’s ex accused him of hitting her while intoxicated, sparking the start of his domestic abuse saga. She clarified that her then-beau was hesitant to go to the convention they were traveling to Oklahoma City for.

Ratray did not “want to be known for something he did 30 years ago,” according to the accuser, but he still went for the money. Despite the actor’s heavy drinking, their trip seemed to go well until his ex gave two women complimentary autographs.

The victim claimed that after berating her from the pub to their hotel room, Ratray eventually lost it and attacked her. “This is how you die,” she yelled, accusing him of pushing, striking, and putting his hands against her mouth and throat.

Variety revealed that Culkin had expressed interest in appearing in another “Home Alone” film a month prior to Stern being charged for attempting to hire an escort. He disclosed that he was receptive to the appropriate idea during a stop on his “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” tour.

Culkin stated that he would gladly seize another opportunity to portray Kevin McCallister, but he preferred a father-son storyline. His concept depicted Kevin as a busy father who doesn’t spend much time with his son until he is locked out of the house for the holidays.

“[Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me,” Culkin said. However, Columbus, the filmmaker of “Home Alone” from the 1990s, felt that the Christmas comedy should be treasured in its original form rather being remade.
