The 12 Best Luxury Perfumes of 2026, Tested & Reviewed

Date:

Consider the power of fragrance—it can give you the confidence to walk a little taller or entice a romantic interest. The top luxury perfumes frequently serve as the culmination of our search for the next intriguing fragrance. “Whether it’s luxury, niche, or any other category of fragrance, one should choose a scent that truly resonates with them,” says Isaac Lekach, cofounder of Flower Shop Perfumes Co. “While it’s advisable to spend within one’s means, investing in a luxury fragrance often provides access to higher-quality ingredients and richer compositions.” Simply put, the best luxury scents wrap us in an unseen cocoon of couture, giving us the confidence of designer clothing without the dry-cleaning expense.

It’s difficult to get a sense of a fragrance from a webpage, so we tested dozens of popular, pricey perfumes for ladies. We spritzed each perfume on our skin, hair, and various textiles, noting how each aroma evolved over time. We evaluated bottle aesthetics, assigned aromas to different seasons and circumstances, and ultimately chose this list as the greatest luxury perfumes for female.

Frédéric Malle

Why We Love It: As chronic over-sharers, we’ll admit that sometimes we wish to appear a bit more mysterious—and Frédéric Malle’s Portrait of a Lady allows you to indulge in that cryptic ideal. The scent, housed in a fairly unassuming minimalist bottle, originally tricked InStyle tester Sunita with its rosy top notes (there are 400 Turkish roses in each bottle!). The idea was that it would stay that way until luscious waves of rich raspberry and blackcurrant blossomed into a mature smell steeped in patchouli and sandalwood. It’s ideal for days when a boost of confidence is required. You can use the perfume at any time of year because it is not overly warm or has a single attention-grabbing and genre-defining note.

Worth noting: Although quite noticeable and fascinating without being overpowering, this smell has limitless possibilities for wearing to work or during leisure time. It’s a highly aromatic fragrance, so a little goes a long ways.

InStyle

Sunita, a tester, says, “It smells sweet and floral with musky undertones.” The sweetness and musk are the most noticeable to me, and there is no distinct alcohol fragrance.”

Sephora

Why We Love It: Skin smells are popular because to #PerfumeTok, and there may be no better option than Phlur’s much-talked-about fragrance. The notes of white musk, delicate florals, and subtle woods give it a musky, fresh, and clean sense, as if you just got out of the shower. Emma Greene of InStyle discovered that it is lightweight and layers wonderfully, making it ideal for everyday use and an excellent addition to your perfume collection if you enjoy mixing and matching. Greene describes it as the ideal girl-next-door scent—slightly mysterious, delicate, gentle, and clean—where someone may question if it’s body lotion or a high-end laundry detergent.

Worth noting: If you are really sensitive to fragrance, this moderate fragrance provides a perfume that is similar to your skin but better and will not overwhelm you or those around you. It lasts fairly long for a skin perfume, but it remains subtle, which is what makes it so appealing.

Creed

Why We Love It: Creed Aventus practically assures a nice morning—or at least a hopeful start to the day. Its exhilarating citrus combination of crisp green apple and fresh bergamot reminded me of summer’s blue-skyed evenings and relaxing in grassy parks. Although zesty and vibrant, this smell isn’t just for spring or summer; it dries down into deeper heart notes of amber, sandalwood, and patchouli to soften its initial sharpness. Although the package it arrived in lacked presentation, the bottle itself did not disappoint. Its curved borders, elegant cap, and golden tint pay homage to the legacy brand’s centuries-old royal origins, when Queen Victoria named the perfumery as the official supplier to the Royal Household.

Worth noting: This perfume is bright and effervescent, but it does not feel girlish or immature; however, a little more vanilla could have lowered the terpenic notes even more.
