Regarding Kiefer Sutherland’s detention last week, new information has surfaced.
After a rideshare driver reported that Sutherland, 59, had reportedly been assaulted in Hollywood, he was taken into custody on January 12 on suspicion of making criminal threats.
According to police sources who spoke to ABC News, the 24-year-old actor is charged with repeatedly striking an Uber driver and attempting to choke him.
According to reports, the rideshare driver did not sustain any injuries that needed medical care.
According to ABC News, the driver says his car had a dash cam that might have recorded some of the incident.
The motorist claimed to authorities that he contacted 911 while fleeing from Sutherland and got out of the car. He claimed that witnesses at the site thought Sutherland had been intoxicated at the time of the event.
Neither the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office nor Sutherland’s representatives immediately responded to The Independent’s request for comment.
Officers are currently looking into the incident, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to a statement from the LAPD, “the investigation revealed that the suspect, subsequently identified as Kiefer Sutherland, entered a rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats toward the victim.”
Regarding the alleged event, Sutherland has not yet been charged. He secured a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2, according to jail records.
According to ABC News, the district attorney’s office stated that the actor will probably face charges soon before his planned court appearance.
Sutherland, the son of the late stars Shirley Douglas and Donald Sutherland, has a history of arrests.
In 2004 and 2007, the Golden Globe winner was arrested for drunk driving; in the latter case, he was imprisoned for 48 days.
In 2009, he was also accused of violence after reportedly head-butting designer Jack McCollough following the Met Gala.
