  • After winning Dancing with the Stars, Robert Irwin didn’t have to wait long for a TV comeback!

The 22-year-old animal conservationist and most recent Mirrorball Trophy winner is traveling to South Africa for the upcoming season of Australia’s I’m a Celebrity. He and Julia Morris have co-hosted Get Me Out of Here since 2023.

Although Irwin’s return to the program was confirmed back in November, he first hinted at it on Instagram on Tuesday, January 11, when he posted a behind-the-scenes video and stated that the “best season yet” would premiere on Sunday, January 18. Less than two months have passed since his victory on Dancing with the Stars.

In the video, Irwin remarked, “Welcome back to South Africa.” “On January 18, Australia, a fantastic new season of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here will premiere. We’re making changes and raising the stakes this season. I’m now working on a small plan.”

The upcoming season, which will premiere on the nation’s Network 10, is “one to watch because it’s going to be the most intense season we’ve ever had, the most challenging, the most emotional,” he continued. And holy crap, our celebrities will have a hard time competing.”

Following his DWTS success, Irwin has also gained some new fans, such as dancing partner and fellow winner Witney Carson, who commented on his Instagram video. “Oh I can’t wait,” she wrote.

Ten years after Irwin’s sister Bindi and partner Derek Hough won season 21, Carson, 32, and Irwin won the Mirrorball Trophy in the DWTS season 34 finals.

In a video that co-host Morris, 57, posted, Irwin hinted at his comeback to I’m a Celebrity while discussing his activities since the previous season, including his DWTS stint and his Bonds underwear promotion. “There was a bit going on then I suppose, hey,” he laughed.

“The mirrorball has made it home – had to show my friends what I’ve been up to 🪩🐨” he captioned the photo, which included a video of him presenting the prize to a koala, bird, and snake. The DWTS winner celebrated his return to Australia on January 8 by introducing his Mirrorball Trophy to some residents of the Australia Zoo, which is owned and run by the Irwin family.

Irwin also launched a “passion project” at the Australia Zoo following his victory and his film debut in Zootopia 2. He disclosed in December that he was “heading back home” to help with the zoo’s 2022-opened Crocodile Hunter Lodge.

The DWTS champion previously told PEOPLE that it was especially memorable to watch his sister win ten years ahead of him since it was a chance to promote their charity, Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors.

“It’s about improving the world.” He said, “And I saw her lifting that message when I watched her lift that Mirrorball.”
