Sigourney Weaver and Celia Imrie are two actresses who have joined the cast of the forthcoming Tomb Raider series on Prime Video.

It follows the announcement by Amazon MGM Studios that Sophie Turner, star of Game of Thrones, will portray Lara Croft in the show, which is based on the well-known computer game that revolves around the renowned fictional adventurer.

Weaver, 76, will play Evelyn Wallis, a high-flying woman “who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents,” in the series, which was created by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Francine, the head of advancement at the British Museum who is “focused solely on raising funds and glasses of champagne,” will be portrayed by Imrie, a 73-year-old actress from Thursday Murder Club who delighted fans during her time on The Celebrity Traitors last year.

Jason Isaacs, an actor from White Lotus, has also joined the cast as Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle.

The 62-year-old actor has been confirmed in a canon role from the Tomb Raider video game franchise, with Martin Bobb-Semple, who plays Lara’s buddy Zip, and Bill Paterson, who plays the family butler Winston.

Additionally, it has been revealed that Jack Bannon from Pennyworth will play Lara’s personal pilot Gerry, and Paterson Joseph from Peep Show and Wonka will portray senior government official Thomas Warner.

Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, John Heffernan, and August Wittgenstein—who plays Lukas, an illegal raider who “shares history” with Lara—are among the other cast members.

The 40-year-old Waller-Bridge stated: “There are many memorable characters in Tomb Raider. I’m overjoyed to have been able to add a couple of our own rascals to the mix while also bringing some of my favorites and fans’ favorites to the big screen. This cast is more amazing than I could have imagined!

Turner went on to say: “I’ve always loved Tomb Raider and Lara as a character. She has always sympathized with me, feeling extremely confident in a world dominated by men. She is a strong example of a woman.

Turner, 29, plays the role of the fictional British archaeologist in previous film adaptations, following in the footsteps of Oscar-winning actresses Alicia Vikander and Angelina Jolie.

“Tomb Raider has always been defined by bold storytelling and unforgettable characters, and these new cast members bring incredible depth and gravitas to the series,” stated Peter Friedlander, CEO of Amazon MGM Studios.

“We’re elevating this world in exciting new ways with talented individuals like Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs joining the ensemble, and we can’t wait for our global Prime Video audience to experience this next chapter of Tomb Raider.”

Production on the show, which is directed and executive produced by Jonathan Van Tulleken, will start later this month.
