The Duffer brothers have revealed the hectic and demanding process of crafting the much awaited conclusion to their cherished Netflix series, Stranger Things.
One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, a new Netflix documentary by Martina Radwan, is currently available. It includes behind-the-scenes footage of the cast, crew, and co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer as they approach their final weeks of work on the show’s dramatic conclusion—without a finished script.
In the documentary, Matt stated, “We were getting hammered constantly by production and by Netflix for episode eight.” “It was the hardest writing situation we’ve ever been in, not only because we had to make sure the script was good, but there was never so much noise at the same time.”
In one film, Matt is seen telling the crew on set that the conclusion is “all plotted out,” even though there isn’t yet a written script.
“We’re just short on time, and I have to write it,” he said.

On New Year’s Eve, Stranger Things ended after almost ten years and five seasons. The fates of the malevolent Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the heroes who defeated him were revealed in the more than two-hour climax, “The Rightside Up.”
Later, the documentary brings viewers to Day 117, the halfway point of production, when they are preparing to begin filming the last episode.
Spoiler alert: we are filming episode 8, which hasn’t been finished yet. Montana Maniscalco, a set production assistant, said to the camera, “So we don’t even fully know what’s going on.”
Regarding the last episode, Matt acknowledged, “I’ve never read 8 through, and we’re just shooting it.” “This is unlike anything I’ve ever done.” Jumping to eight is so strange. Don’t adore it. Don’t adore it.
Actor Finn Wolfhard told the camera, “We had a year of being on the edge of our seats,” as he shared a glimpse of the last table read. It was agony.
The Duffer brothers disclosed in the documentary that they had only finished the script on the Wednesday before Sunday, September 8, 2024, the final table read.
Matt remarked, “It was the longest time we’ve ever spent with the writers on a single episode.”
First released in 2016, Stranger Things follows a group of school-age friends as they look into a number of paranormal occurrences in the made-up town of Hawkins, Indiana. Before being overtaken by Wednesday, its fourth season was the most popular and briefly held the title of Netflix’s most watched English-language series.
It quickly rose back to the top after Volume One of its fifth and final season received an incredible 59.6 million views in its first week, officially surpassing Wednesday’s season one, which received over 56 million views in its first four days in 2022.
In a statement, brothers Ross and Matt remarked, “The sheer number of fans who have already watched Volume 1 is staggering – the response has been more than we ever could have dreamed.”
“Now that the show is ten years old, it has been tremendously fulfilling for us, the performers, and the thousands of artists who helped bring this story to life to see the fan base not only persevere but also continue to grow. We sincerely thank each and every one of you.
