Grace Van Patten and Jackson White’s explosive (albeit toxic) chemistry as Lucy and Stephen has fans hooked on Tell Me Lies. But once the cameras stop rolling for the hit Hulu show, the couple’s chemistry continues in their (much healthier) real-life relationship.
The stars, both born in 1996, have been giving fans a glimpse into their off-screen relationship since the first season of Tell Me Lies premiered in 2022, gradually sharing more and more details about their real-life romance — from their first meeting to their first impression of each other, and even their first kiss.

Jackson White and Grace Van Patten looked stunning as they arrived at the 5th Annual Academy Museum Gala in matching black gowns. White went for a monochrome take on the classic tuxedo, wearing a black shirt and black bow tie, while Van Patten wore a see-through gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline and a skirt with a feathered hemline.
Grace Van Patten and Jackson White began dating during Tell Me Lies’ audition process, but in an episode of Call Her Daddy, she revealed that she initially “didn’t like” White.
“I heard Jackson was the favorite. And he comes on, and — I’ve told him this — I’m like, ‘Oh, this is a serious actor, like, actor-y actor. “So I was just like, ‘Ugh, God,'” Van Patten said. “I was like, ‘Okay. That’s fine. Maybe we will not get along. But, like, he’s perfect for the role, and he’s so talented and great,” she went on.
However, Van Patten claimed that when the two met in person, the energy was “completely different.” She went on to say, “We all had dinner and got along right away. We were both like, “We have a crush on each other.” This is most likely the worst possible outcome. And we sat on a stoop for about six hours, discussing every reason why we shouldn’t act on this. “Then I kissed him.” Talk about an unforgettable first kiss!
Jackson White accompanied Grace Van Patten to the premiere of his new Hulu project, Swiped, at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. The couple posed on the red carpet together, hugging and smiling at one another.
While Tell Me Lies season 3 was filming, White flew to New York City to support Van Patten at the premiere of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, which was held at the New York Historical Society. White attended the event alongside Van Patten’s family. Van Patten told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m so happy Jackson can be here with me, and my entire family is here. “It feels very special.”
On September 4, 2024, Grace Van Patten and Jackson White attended the Tell Me Lies season 2 premiere at The Bungalow in Santa Monica, California, as an official couple.
Speaking to People, Van Patten described working with White as “trippy” because “we are together in real life, and he knows me better than anyone.” White added, “It was really strange. It was hard. We had put these people away for a while, so bringing them back out was both difficult and enjoyable. “We knew exactly how to do it.”
They also discussed their relationship for the first time, saying: “We’re wildly different [to Stephen and Lucy], thank goodness.”
Van Patten told E! later that month: “Because we established that dynamic first season, the second season was a lot easier to turn on and off. And we’re so different from these characters, so it’s really just an opportunity to let all of our bad feelings out so there aren’t any left by the time we get home.”
