Even a simple accessory can have a significant impact on fashion. Celebrities wore “ICE OUT” pins on the Grammys red carpet in 2026 to do exactly that.
Over the last month, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been deployed in considerable numbers throughout the country, particularly in Minneapolis. On January 20, ICE apprehended five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos. Just four days later, an ICE officer shot and murdered Alex Pretti. Helen J. Shen, Kehlani, Justin and Hailey Bieber, Billie Eilish, and Finneas walked the Grammys 2026 red carpet wearing “ICE OUT,” physically wearing their principles. Bad Bunny went it a step further by mentioning it during his statement when winning the award for best urban music album.
The pins have become sort of an awards season standard, having first appeared at the Golden Globes in 2026. According to a press release distributed to journalists prior to the Golden Globes red carpet, the pins are part of an ACLU-backed campaign organised by “a coalition of entertainment industry professionals,” with support from Maremoto, MoveOn, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Working Families Power.
Celebrities at the Golden Globes wore “Be Good” pins as part of a planned response to the killing of Renée Macklin Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis mother, poet, and writer who was shot and killed by ICE. The announcement spurred vigils and demonstrations around the country as people mourned her death and wrestled with the horrific circumstances surrounding it. The message “Be Good” is intended to serve as a reminder of “what it means to be good to one another in the face of such horror — to be a good citizen, neighbour, friend, ally, and human,” according to the press release.
These pins also commemorate Keith Porter Jr., another victim. A 43-year-old man was slain by an off-duty ICE agent in Los Angeles just after New Year’s Eve.
A pin may be little, but with the help of social media and camera flashes, it becomes impossible to ignore.
