Every fashion editor I know is obsessed with their go-to pieces. As part of our work, we try everything and write in-depth reviews, so we know what our favorites are. Naturally, we’ll have some thoughts on white T-shirts since they are the ultimate in fundamentals. Non-see-through T-shirts are essential, even if I adore semi-sheer t-shirts, particularly for layering in the cold. Since it might be challenging to determine which white T-shirts would actually be opaque when shopping online, I asked my coworkers for their recommendations.
My assortment of bras ranges from muted tones to vivid crimson and plum hues. However, when I can wear a T-shirt over any bra and leave the house, I know it’s not truly see-through. I contacted my fellow fashion editors for advice since I share their sentiments, and they provided it. The nine non-see-through white T-shirts that my coworkers will sell you are listed below.

“After wearing fitted t-shirts for years, I’ve only realized that I actually like a boxy fit this time of year. As soon as I realized this, I added this T-shirt to my closet. It has the ideal ratio of structure to softness, making it a simple choice for any day. It goes well with everything I own because to its timeless, sophisticated feel and excellent cotton, but it looks especially good layered over a bulky knit sweater. Sierra Mayhew, Editor of Fashion

Babaton
Function T-Shirt
$40

“With its ’90s-inspired Tasha style, Refine has nailed the upgraded T-shirt. The soft t-shirt has a crewneck silhouette and sleeves that reach the elbows. It is composed entirely of cotton. I often opt for this T-shirt when I want to seem put together. — Kristen Nichols, Special Projects Associate Director

REFINE
The Tasha T-Shirt
$162

“This may seem strange to say for a simple white t-shirt, but when I wear this Levi’s one, everything looks so put together. I give respect to the bright white color and the thicker material that maintains its boxy shape. Indeed, iconic. — Senior Fashion Editor Anna LaPlaca

Iconic T-Shirt
$30

I find that most of the staples in my closet that have withstood five apartments and innumerable closet purges are vintage or vintage-inspired. By that, what do I mean? The Heritage t-shirt from Re/Done is a prime example. The color isn’t a genuine white, which makes it appear even more worn-in, and it has a soft, worn-in feel that I often only discover while rummaging through a rack of secondhand t-shirts. I give it ten out of ten. LaPlaca

Hanes
Hanes Classic Tee
$95

“At the moment, this white T-shirt is my favorite in my closet. It’s professional enough to wear to work with a great blazer because it’s not see-through and the neckline never sags. It’s really difficult to top this t-shirt’s excellence. — Fashion News Associate Director Erin Fitzpatrick

Cos
Clean Cut Regular T-Shirt
$45

“I suggest that everyone wear this Uniqlo t-shirt. For the price, the quality is excellent; it is washable and non-see-through. The neckline is fantastic, and I adore the oversized cut. Bobby Schuessler, Director of Shopping

Uniqlo
Airism Cotton T-Shirt
$19

“I purchased this Aritzia t-shirt because it was soft and substantial, according to several of the positive reviews. (A thin white t-shirt doesn’t appeal to me.) Additionally, I appreciate that it’s more waist-length and little cropped without being cropped. I purchased two more as soon as I got it and tried it on.” — Senior Fashion Editor Allyson Payer

Sunday Best
BestHug™ Little Ribbed T-Shirt
$25

“This is without a doubt my favorite fitted white t-shirt. It has a minimalist ’90s look and is of incredible quality (not at all see-through!). The crewneck silhouette is ideal. I wear it with just about anything: skirts, jeans, sweaters, you name it. — Associate Shopping Director Judith Jones

Lauren Ralph Lauren
Stretch Knit T-Shirt
$50

The men’s area is where I get many of my staples, such as jeans, button-down shirts, hoodies, and more, but T-shirts are by far the item I steal from the boys the most. Men’s t-shirts are generally more fitted and substantial, the sleeves are a bit longer, the fabric is thicker and less transparent, and they are never too tight. I have this one in two colors in a men’s XS from Uniqlo U, Christophe Lemaire’s collection for Uniqlo. My boyfriend wears them as frequently as I do, and I bought them for him as well. This is a great, reasonably priced choice to try if you’re searching for a larger, more oversized-fitting t-shirt. — Senior Fashion Editor Eliza Huber
