Flip-flops are undeniably popular right now. The days when they were viewed as “scruffy” and “un-chic,” worn only for beach vacations or trips to the neighborhood pool, are long gone. Fashionistas seem to be obsessed with the effortless flat-soled shoe this summer, pairing it with everything from linen pants to midi skirts. It should come as no surprise that I’ve already spent money on a number of stylish flip-flop variations to upgrade my summer wardrobe, ranging from elegant square-toe designs to opulent suede fabrics. Red flip-flops, on the other hand, are a recent fashion trend that I didn’t anticipate seeing on Instagram’s coolest dressers.

For those of us who prefer to keep our summertime ensembles looking sophisticated and put together, red flip-flops might seem like the wrong choice at first. However, this striking color is a surprisingly simple way to add a pop of color to your otherwise neutral wardrobe without feeling too uncomfortable.

This striking shade will appear incredibly stylish and sophisticated whether paired with your go-to white midi dress or traditional black linen pants, but the flip-flop’s more understated form will keep the ensemble feeling carefree and on the minimalist side of dressing.

What’s the best part? They are quite adaptable. By replacing your tank and flowing midi skirt with a lightweight knit and wide-leg jeans, you can easily wear them from now until early autumn. They will also look great with both neutrals and bolder designs.
