If there’s one popular topic these days, it’s the fourth season of Netflix’s The Crown. Fans of the royal family are captivated by the show’s mix of drama, romance, and political competition, but actress Helena Bonham Carter’s portrayal of Princess Margaret might be our favorite aspect. Her lively character truly enhances the series, and a recent conversation with InStyle disclosed that the 54-year-old is surprisingly down-to-earth in reality.
Skin Care
Bonham Carter emphasizes that her skincare routine revolves around getting enough sleep: “People comment on how great I look, and it’s because I get plenty of rest, which is the ultimate collagen enhancer,” says the actress. It’s impressive that I accomplish anything given how much I sleep. I nap during the day and aim for eight or nine hours at night to aid collagen synthesis.” However, before she goes to bed, she uses two of her preferred products: Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil ($105) and Augustinus Bader The Cream ($170). “I haven’t decided yet—I’m examining my face to see if it’s more plump,” she confides to InStyle.
Everyday Essentials
“I have always believed that makeup that isn’t perfect is the best, which is why I smudge everything,” Bonham Carter shares. Her go-to products include Suqqu Cream Foundation, priced at $80, and, naturally, a kohl eyeliner. Additionally, she enjoys layering MAC Cosmetics Powder Kiss Lipstick, available for $21. Regarding fragrances, the Beetlejuice star notes that certain scents can influence her emotions. “I apply Ilapothecary Feminine Happy Oil, costing $51, all over like I’m basting a turkey. It encapsulates a feeling of joy in a bottle and provides an uplifting and stabilizing effect.” She also enjoys using one of our favorites: Aromatherapy Associates Bath Oils, which are priced at $71. “These are fantastic because they instantly make me feel more relaxed.”
Strand Care
Bonham Carter is among the few celebrities we know who has a hairstylist who is also a close friend. “My oldest friend, Carol, styles my hair every two weeks. If I have to do it myself, I simply wash it and put it into pin curls to add volume.” However, when she’s pressed for time, dry shampoo becomes her other go-to. “I really love Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo at $32; it makes my hair appear fuller at the roots and provides some lift. To finish off her hairstyle, she enjoys various hair accessories. “Decorating my hair with them is like adorning a Christmas tree,” she tells InStyle.
