We delve into the world of design in Personal Space, examining the mood boards of industry insiders to ascertain the methods they employ to curate their living spaces. Yasmin Sewell, a fashion consultant, tastemaker, and creative entrepreneur, will follow. Yasmin’s most recent endeavour is the development of perfumes for both personal and household use. Her brand, Vyrao, is dedicated to the development of a novel category of fragrances that specifically target emotions and energy by utilising aroma, colour, crystals, and natural ingredients that have been scientifically validated. Yasmin discusses her signature interior design style, the significance of fragrance in her sense of home, and the method by which she maintains her vitality, following the recent release of her new fragrance, Mamajuju.
How would you describe your interior design style?
My style is characterised by a combination of boldness and profound intuition. In a manner similar to the way Vyrao connects with energy, my home embodies a similar ethos. It employs colour, texture, and objects with significance to establish spaces that are both uplifting and lively. I am fond of combining eras and achieving a harmonious equilibrium between emotional resonance and amusing creativity.
If we were to walk into your house on any given day, what would we be likely to see?
There is consistently a significant number of children present, with males predominant. The home is perpetually alive with energy, as my sons frequently entertain their friends. I am likely to be found in the kitchen, primarily preparing meals from scratch, as there is always an abundance of greenery.
What aesthetic style, era, or vibe speaks to you the most?
Frida Kahlo and The Golden Girls were combined with Fauves Gauguin.

What made you fall in love with the house you live in now?
I’ve always wanted a home in East London, where there aren’t many private gardens or squares. The garden is maintained by all of my neighbors, which makes it lovely. The street is pink during this time of year when a cherry blossom tree blooms.
What are some of your favourite rooms in your house?
Everyone congregates in my kitchen, where we have our most in-depth discussions. I also adore my bedroom’s colors and lighting.
What are some of the best buys you have invested in for your house?
My favorite things are from Kempton Market, where I’ve discovered some of my most valuable finds. These are amazing finds, but they’re not the priciest.
Whose interiors might we find screenshotted in your saved folder as inspo?
References and photos are not something I keep; I have never done so. Usually, my decisions are influenced by my current emotions. I therefore choose items that I fall in love with right away while I’m searching for new pieces for my house. Designer stuff don’t particularly appeal to me; instead, I love things that give me positive vibes and a lot of energy. I simply fell in love with my Utrecht chair, which is an anomaly.

As more of us are working from home than ever before, how important is curating a workspace in the home, and what is the inspiration behind yours?
I do not have a designated workstation in my residence, and I have no intention of establishing one. I prefer to maintain a clear distinction between my professional and personal lives. I aspire to create a sanctuary within my residence. I am in the process of installing a Clear light infrared sauna in my garden in order to create a space in my home that is conducive to genuine relaxation and rejuvenation.
As the founder of Vyrao, how intrinsic would you say fragrance is to the home?
Fragrance is indispensable; it serves as a mechanism for establishing the atmosphere and redistributing vitality. I enjoy utilizing Vyrao’s fragrances to establish harmony in my household, as they are intended to elevate your mood. A scent is a form of magic that profoundly connects with your senses, able to bring calm, excitement, or clarity.

What would you recommend implementing in the home to set the perfect mood or energy?
Color and fragrance are indispensable. The impact of a bold color on one’s emotional state in a space is significant, and the appropriate fragrance can enhance the room’s vitality. It is also crucial to consider the music you enjoy, as it has the potential to alter the atmosphere of a space. It pertains to the stimulation of all five senses. I frequently prepare meals while listening to exquisite music, and I am convinced that it enhances the flavor of the food. The primary objective is to establish a connection between the senses.
What are some of your favourite pieces in your home collection?
Ember candle and Witchy Incense are about intention-setting. I made the Ember candle to cleanse an area and the Witchy Incense to inspire creativity.
Do you have any tips on how best to shop antique, vintage, and second-hand?
Follow your gut, if something feels right, try it. Prioritize quality and story. If it makes you happy, go for it.

What advice would you give anyone wanting to redecorate their space?
In the physical sphere, your space should ideally reflect your identity, and I believe it is a beneficial method of introspection. Begin with what resonates with you on an emotional level. Do not hesitate to make dramatic decisions, such as selecting a color that alters the atmosphere of a room. And most significantly, embrace a touch of magic; your home should not only reflect your style but also your energy.
