The 12 Best Slippers for Maximum Coziness, Tested & Reviewed

Date:

With ankle boots, knee-high boots, and sneakers galore, it’s easy to overlook your house slippers. We understand—they don’t seem like something you need to invest in, especially since you usually wear slippers inside the house with loungewear. However, “Slippers aren’t just for lounging as they should provide enough support and structure to keep your feet, ankles, and knees aligned,” says celebrity podiatrist Bobby Pourziaee, D.P.M. In fact, he advises looking for pairs with a “supportive insole, cushioning that absorbs shock, and a sturdy outsole so you can safely wear them around the house or even step outside.”

With so many options, we assigned a dedicated team of InStyle testers to test 20 different women’s slippers. It’s time to treat your feet with the same care and comfort you do the rest of your body, beginning with these editor-approved slippers.

Why We Love It: These slippers’ thick, ridged rubber soles provide excellent grip and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor wear. When our tester wore them, she never slid on her slick hardwood floors. There is shearling around the ankles, but the footbed is made of pressed-down felt, which keeps her feet warm without overheating. They stayed on her feet as she walked and maintained excellent condition throughout the four-week testing period. You can feel good about your purchase as well. Inspired by the Hawaiian islands, the brand donates a portion of its proceeds to the Ama OluKai Foundation, which works to protect Hawaiian communities and traditions.

Who It’s For: Although these slippers are a bit pricey, our tester praised their quality and durability. Anyone who frequently wears slippers, whether in the garden or around the house, will value this pair’s durability, warmth, and support.

Worth noting: As someone with flat feet, our tester would have preferred a little more arch support. However, the ability to slip into them “definitely improved” her overall home experience.

Talya, a shoe size 8 tester, says, “I like how luxurious they are while also being well-constructed and practical. They’re super simple to put on when I’m getting ready in the morning, doing chores, or sitting at my desk.”

Why We Love It: Just because you mostly wear your slippers indoors doesn’t mean they have to be boring. The Bombas Sunday Mule is anything but ordinary, and not just because it comes in a bright red tomato color. The slipper also features a cushioned, memory foam footbed that mimics the natural contours of the foot. The rubber outsole provides traction, allowing you to walk to the mailbox or water the garden without fear of slipping. Bombas also lines them with sherpa, which makes you feel like you’re walking on clouds.

Who It’s For: These slippers’ memory foam padding will benefit anyone who suffers from chronic foot pain, has a diagnosed condition, or spends a lot of time on their feet. The footbed allows your feet to sink into the supportive cushion, relieving pressure on your arch, legs, and lower back.

Worth noting: If you intend to wear thick, cozy socks, go up a half size.

Why We Love It: Once you slip your feet into the iconic, extremely comfortable Ugg Scuffette II House Slippers, you’ll see why they’re so popular. The slippers have a very soft sheepskin interior and a generously fluffy collar, which, according to our tester, “adds so much to the look and comfort, warmth, and feel.” These slippers hug your feet so you don’t slip out of them. The tough rubber sole also kept our tester from slipping, whether she walked on marble or hardwood floors.

Who It’s For: Fashion stylist Jamie Grimstad Huth recommends slip-on styles like these because they’re easy to put on and take off to shower or curl up on the couch. Even if you have sweaty feet (like our tester), these slippers will keep you from becoming too clammy. And, because they are slip-ons, they are ideal for anyone who does not want to bend over to put on their slippers.

The footbed is not padded and offers little arch support.

Elena, a tester with a shoe size of 8, said, “I’ve worn them every day since they arrived. I wear them while sitting, walking, and dancing around my house. They’re extremely comfortable and still look brand new.
