The no-makeup movement is gaining traction, with celebrities like Pamela Anderson frequently embracing bare-faced beauty on the red carpet and elsewhere. However, some people choose not to wear makeup for personal reasons. Enter Amy Adams, who recently told People that she stopped wearing makeup for years to honor a request from her teenage daughter, Aviana.
“She didn’t like me wearing makeup,” the 50-year-old actress told the publication. “She said, ‘I just want you to look like Mom, not Amy Adams.’” And I said, ‘You got it.’ So there were years when I didn’t wear makeup anywhere we went. I mean, I did steal some mascara, but she wanted me to be simply Mom, so I wouldn’t wear makeup.”
However, Adams found it easy to scale back her regimen. After all, she says she’s always the “last person to get ready” in her household, with Aviana and her husband, Darren Le Gallo, getting ready first.
“I’ll help my daughter get dressed. My husband will get ready,” she said. “I’ll be helping her, running around, or braiding her hair. And I’m always the last person to get ready… Usually, it’s a ponytail and maybe a hat, and I think it’s been that way since she was born.”
The Enchanted Star admits she’s still “usually the least manicured” in her household, but Aviana has inspired a slight style shift.
“Recently, I’ve been working on an improvement at my daughter’s request. She’s like, ‘You can’t wear workout clothes if you’re not working out, Mom,’” Adams explained. “‘You can’t just do the leisure part of athleisure.’”
Honestly, we could all use a little Aviana-style motivation.
